C. Herbert Hess, 82, of Lancaster died peacefully on Saturday, April 4, at home. He was married to Eunice Bergey Hess for 57 years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Christ G. and Edna Snyder Hess.

Herb was a dairy farmer and bus driver for Manheim Township School District. He was an active member of the Neffsville Mennonite Church. He often led the congregation in singing and he was a baritone in a men’s quartet for many years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother, Clyde Hess of East Ridge, TN; 2 sons, Gerald (Jerry) Hess of Lancaster and Daniel Hess of Fairbanks, AK; 4 daughters, Carol Martin of Crestview, FL, Julia Nolt of Lancaster, Kathleen Shuman of Marietta, and Twila Sauder of Lititz; 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Herb was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Hess Landis, Louis Hess Herr and Sara Ann Hess Showalter.

Herb enjoyed spending time with family, volunteering at MCC, and supporting the local blood bank.

A funeral service will be held at the Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pk., Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, April 8th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Landis Valley Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, April 7th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
