Betty S. Jones, 79, formerly of Millersville, PA, died on August 19, 2025 at Dresher Hill Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born in Gettysburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Ada (Pennabaker) Sell. She was the loving wife of the late Henry “Hank” Crane Jones, to whom she had been married to for 47 years prior to his death in 2016.
Betty was a graduate of Littlestown High School and Central Penn Business School, Harrisburg, PA. In 1964, she participated in Adams County’s Junior Miss Pageant and was crowned Junior Miss of Adams County.
She began her career as a medical secretary and later transitioned to become a legal secretary for Barley Snyder for which she worked for approximately 35 years.
She enjoyed working in her garden, beach vacations, hosting dinner parties and shopping with her sister, Janet. She also enjoyed singing and had an extraordinary voice and range. At many dinner parties, she entertained guests by singing the song “People.” She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster where she was active in the choir. She loved animals, had several cats when she was young, and more recently, a miniature schnauzer named Topper.
Betty is survived by a son, Jason R. Jones of Philadelphia and a sister, Janet Cole of Gettysburg. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Anna Gobrecht and by a brother, Herbert Sell. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA, 17602 on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Claire George-Drumheller officiating. The family will greet friends at the church at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Private interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
