Barbara Works

Barbara L. Works, 76, of Washington Court House, Ohio, formerly of Lancaster, Pennsylvania went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Born in Martinsville, Indiana on October 21, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Helen Lambert of Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, William Dale Works, one son Kyle Reed Works (Sarah) of Palm Springs, California, and one sister Sarah Borror (Tim) of Washington Court House, Ohio. She is preceded in death by a son, Curtis Allen Works.

Barbara was a pioneer in the allied health field in Ohio by becoming a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant and was proud that she was the first COTA hired in Cincinnati in 1969. She worked at Good Samaritan Hospital and then at Children’s Hospital where she established and ran a successful Activities of Daily Living (ADL) unit for children, a first such unit for her and the facility. As a certifiedCOTA she taught at a junior college in Chicago and was the Illinois State Occupational Therapy Association secretary for three years. Barbara was nominated nationally for COTA of the year in 1983.

It was at Children’s Hospital that a friend and colleague led Barbara to Jesus and Barbara became on fire for the Lord. Through discipleship she developed her relationship with Him! With her desire to reach others for the Lord, Barbara was involved in and led numerous bible study groups wherever we moved. In 1991, the Lord told Barbara to give up her COTA license! As that was her professional identity she struggled to release it! However, she was obedient as He told her she was to have a Ministry of Availability. With that she was available to minister, mentor, pray for and counsel those who called on her. She taught and led many to come to know the Lord. Her objective was not having someone just know the word, but to come to know and have a deep relationship with Him! In her work for the Lord, she became known as the “connector of people” across all age groups in her service to Him. During this time, she home schooled Kyle through high school.

Barbara developed what friends endearingly call “Barbara-isms”, her way of explanation. A common one was “being obedient without understanding”. When the Lord tells us to do something; we may lack understanding what he desires or may not like what he is telling us, but we need to be obedient as he has a plan and purpose for us. As she always said “if the Lord told us his plans for us up front we would just mess it up and not bring him glory”! She had a way with words! Those impacted by her will always remember her wisdom and discernment.

The following characterizes Barbara: Colossians 3: 23-24: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Yes, she served our Lord God with all her heart and did a job that was well done!

Funeral Service: 3:00 PM Saturday September 26, 2026. A viewing will be prior to the service from 1:30 – beginning of the service at DeBord Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St, Lancaster, PA.
