Ann Louise Hince, 80, of Lancaster, passed away on December 23, 2023 at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health.
Born in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late John Frank and Ruth (Sensenig) Quigley of Quarryville.
Ann graduated from Solanco High in 1961 and was named “Miss Solanco.”
She began work at Armstrong Cork Company. She held many positions as she raised her family, including modeling for a department store in Columbus, Georgia, and serving as a phone operator for Kinnelon (NJ) High School. Later, she worked as a restaurant hostess, a licensed real estate agent, and in administration for The Jay Group. She was especially proud of her association with the Pennsylvania Academy of Music, serving as their first employee and continuing to volunteer for them until retirement.
Ann enjoyed music, as well as working in the yard, tennis, card games, entertaining, and travel. In 1976, she and her late ex-husband, Dan Hince, boarded the Queen Elizabeth II ocean liner to Cherbourg, France, beginning a five-year adventure in Brussels, Belgium. She took advantage of the time to visit many European countries and to take courses in French cuisine and to learn to ski. She made sure that her sons also experienced the culture of Europe. They were active first in a French speaking school to learn the language, and then in the International School of Brussels. Here Ann became a perpetual Team Mom, supporting her boys’ growing aptitude for sports, including football, basketball, and baseball.
When the family returned to the US, Ann continued her constant support of the boys’ activities, including their sports, Boy Scouts, and piano.
Since returning to Lancaster County in 1989, she became a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster and valued her time spent volunteering with Stephens Ministries.
She precedes in death her sister, Betty (Defibaugh) Pennington, and is survived by four sons: Daniel Hince (husband of Teri) parents of Samantha, Kendall, Daniel, Mallory, and Brian; John Christopher Hince (husband of Therese) parents of Tyler father to Mia, and Zachary; Gregory Hince (husband of Julie) parents of Rachel and Noah; Curtis Hince (husband of Maria) parents of Lucia, Frank, and Fiona. She also has many beloved nieces and nephews.
