Norma W. Sellers Varner, 83, a resident of the Mennonite Home, Lancaster, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County.
She was married 50 years to the late Roy S. Varner who died in 2004. Born November 22, 1927 in Martic Forge, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Cornelia Wissler Sellers.
Norma had worked for Bell and AT&T as a supervisor and retired after 42 years in the phone industry. In her career in the phone industry, she had worked many years in Lancaster, for the Wisconsin Telephone Co. in Milwaukee for four years, and for AT&T in New York City for five years. She was a 1945 graduate of Penn Manor High School. Norma was a member of the Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, was the secretary of the Telephone Pioneers Council of Roses and had received the Lifesaver Award from Bell of PA. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and traveling.
Surviving are three brothers, Ivan W. husband of Shirley Sellers of Lancaster, Frank W. husband of Jeanette Sellers of Pequea, and John G. husband of Lois Sellers of Pequea. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Sellers, and by sisters, Daisy Marie Campbell and Anna Mary Shaub.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Richard A. Sheetz Funeral Home, 2024 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening (TONIGHT) from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Landis Valley Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, 673 Martic Heights Drive, Pequea, PA 17565.
