Mark M. Mueller, 89, recently of Lancaster PA, was born on November 24, 1923 in Erie PA to Herman and Edna Mueller. He went to heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 10, 2013. Mark was a loving, caring, faithful husband to Adele Batdorf Mueller to whom he was married 60 years ago on June 28, 1952. He was a devoted and loving father to Carol Jackson, married to Dennis; David Mueller married to Kathy; and Garry Mueller married to Dori. Mark graduated from Academy H.S., Erie PA, in 1942. He volunteered during WWII in the Navy where he became a medical corpsman assigned to the Marines serving with the 6th Division. He fought bravely during the battle of Okinawa April 1 to June 21, 1945. As his Presidential Unit Citation states, “By their valor and tenacity, the officers and men of the Sixth Marine Division, contributed materially to the conquest of Okinawa and their gallantry in overcoming a fanatic enemy in the face of extraordinary danger and difficulty adds new luster to Marine Corps history, and to the traditions of the United States Naval Service.” He then subsequently served with the occupation forces in China until honorably discharged. Being a humble man, Mark rarely spoke about his war activities, although it left a mark on him. After the war, Mark then graduated from Allegheny College with a degree in Chemistry. He worked in a few careers before finding his passion and love in a career as a microbiologist with the State of Maryland Health Department, working there from 1963 until retiring in 2000 at the age of 77. From this experience, Mark lived his belief that it is one’s passion for the work that gives joy, not the paycheck. Mark was very committed to all he did, true to the motto ‘Semper Fidelis’. Mark and Adele were 50 year members of Loch Raven United Methodist Church, Baltimore MD, from 1960 to 2010 when they transferred their membership to Hempfield UM Church. While at Loch Raven he served as Cubmaster and encouraged his children to become Scouts. He later served many years in Baltimore County as a Boy Scout Commissioner. Mark also taught Sunday School for many years. Mark was a loving grandfather to Daniel Mueller husband of Lori, David B. Mueller, husband of Karolina, and Katie Mueller. Also in Lancaster raised grandchildren Sarah Mueller, Rachel Mueller, and Rebekah Mueller. His grandchildren will miss him as he was involved in their lives and loved them all dearly. Mark knew he was blessed to live long enough to have 4 great-grandchildren: Caden and Grayson Mueller, sons of Daniel and Lori Mueller; Kinga Mueller, daughter of David B. and Karolina Mueller; and Kinsey, daughter of Erik and Paige Fries. Mark and Adele also traveled the world together later in life. We will all miss our husband, dad, grandpa and ‘GG-pa’ but know he is in heaven and is new again. Also surviving are an older brother Carl Mueller, husband of Sue, and younger sister Mary Boenke, wife of John; 12 nieces and nephews; and many great- nieces and nephews.
