Marie Rutherford (nee Shorrock), 86, of Lancaster passed away at BrethrenVillage on Friday, December 28, 2012. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Nellie (Hodge) Shorrock. She was married to the late Russell H. Rutherford for 57 years and lived in the East Falls section of Philadelphia until 2006.

Marie was a homemaker and also ran a cake baking business from her home in Philadelphia for over 35 years.  She enjoyed painting and hosting family gatherings.  Marie was a lifelong member of the East Falls United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, and was a volunteer fundraiser for Thomas Mifflin Elementary School and the Falls of Schuylkill Library.

She is survived by a son, Robert J., husband of Nancy Edwards Rutherford of Lititz, and a grandson, Matthew Robert Rutherford of Lititz.  Also surviving are two brothers, Arthur Shorrock husband of Jean of New Hope and Ernest Shorrock husband of Dorie of Mechanicsburg.  She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service in the Chapel of Brethren Village, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  Interment will be held at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler, PA on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marie’s name may be made to the Discovery Corner Preschool Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church, 29 E. Walnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.

We will miss you Aunt Marie. Bob, Nancy and Matt we are so sorry for your loss. I will always remember her in the kitchen at East Fallls making cakes, scones and Yorkshire pudding. She always called me a rotten kid and I always called her my rotten Aunt. I will miss you you rotten Aunt.

thinking about the fun times we had when I visited in 1974 I was made so welcome by Russ & Marie during my vacation

What a lovely party Marie gave me and a lovely cake to say farewell on my return to england

I was so blessed to have had a wonderful friendship with someone as great as Marie, here at Brethren Village. Her Frienship meant alot to me. It was so nice to sit with her during our meals and activities.

Her face would light up when my great grandchildren would come to see her. Also, she enjoyed when my son-in-law would come in and paint her nails or take her for a stroll.

Our families loving thoughts and prayers are with Marie’s family.
