Margot Maitland Sloyer (McCachren), 79, died October 26, 2014 at Landis Homes. She was born in Columbia, PA, daughter of the late R. Clark and Elizabeth “Betty” McCachren. She was the beloved wife of William M. Sloyer with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage this month.

She graduated from Columbia High School in 1953 and the Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1956, where she made many life- long friends. She worked as a nurse at LGH before starting her family of 4 sons.

She was a giving and selfless mother and wife, volunteering and participating in all of her boys’ activities.  She worked on the farm and in the garden, canning and freezing the family’s food. She loved raising and arranging flowers. She was a Sunday school teacher at First Reformed Church where the family attended. She was active in Boy Scouts, the nurses’ alumni association, Lancaster Town Fair, and the Women’s Garden Club.  She was involved in starting the now thriving community breakfast at First Reformed Church.  She worked for the American Diabetes Association. After that she became the first McNinch Visiting/Parish nurse for First Presbyterian Church and served in this capacity for 17 years, using her gifts of empathy, compassion, and service, all the while nurturing “her people’s” faith.

She enjoyed vacationing in Mount Gretna with her family and then grandchildren all of her life. She and Bill were able to travel later in life especially enjoying Scotland and Europe.

In addition to her husband Bill, she is survived by her four sons: Robert M., married to Lena of Lancaster, Mark W., married to Denise of Landisville, John S., married to Joan of Centre County, and Andrew C., married to Kristina; and her four grandchildren, Curtis W. of California, Kristen E. of Mozambique (Peace Corps volunteer), Clark W. and Will(iam)M. of Lancaster.  She is also survived by a sister Mary Anne Keller, married to Dean of Lancaster, and a brother Michael C. McCachren married to Clarice of Orlando, FL

The family appreciates the loving care provided by the staff of Landis Homes.
