My deepest sympathy to Liana with the loss of your mother. Shirley was my first cousin; her father and my mother (Polly Melone Watson) were brother and sister. We spent a lot of time together up through our teen years even though Shirley’s parents lived in Washington, DC. They visited often to Uncle Aubreys home in Stanardsville, Va. I would spend a week in the summer at there home in DC. My last time visiting with Shirley at her home in Lancaster was about 10 years ago when she so graciously gave me our Great Grandfathers Gun and Sword he had carried in the Civil War that Uncle Aubrey had given a home to since around 1946. What a treasure I have now displayed in my home. Shirley and I visited each other on the phone every several months and I will miss her, May the love that Shirley had for you be of comfort as you were the “Light of her Life.”
Thinking of you Liana during this difficult loss in your life. Shirlley and I were first cousins and spent a lot of time together up through our teen years, I visited Shirley at her home in Lancaster about 10 years ago when she so graciously passed on to me a Sword and Gun that our Great Grandfather had carrried in the Civil War. Her father had given these items a home since 1946. They are now being displayed in my home and back in Greene County. They will remain in our family as I will pass them to my oldest Grandson, Cole. I will miss our telephone visits. She always spoke of you with such adoration — you were the “Light of her Life”
