The Little Things In Life To Be Thankful For

April 2016

Sometimes, death happens unexpectedly, taking away lives regardless of age, leaving us confused and sometimes hurt, and this is when we are reminded of the randomness of death and delicateness of life.

And yet, every moment of every day, many of us forget the amazing beauty and gift of being alive on this Earth.

Experiencing the loss of a loved one can feel painful and lonely, yet it is in this sadness that we can also be reminded not to take things for granted.

Having this awareness of the inevitable can inspire us to live life to its fullest and to live in the present moment.

What would this world look like if we all became a little more grateful for everything that surrounds us?  What if, instead of taking things for granted, we became more mindful of the present?  How would it feel if we all started to enjoy our experiences more, appreciate each other more, and begin celebrating the life that we have?

At DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory we believe in the power of compassion, empathy, forgiveness, and gratitude.

Being a funeral director, we get reminded each day how important it is to honor each other and ourselves, and to show gratitude for all that we are and have in our lives.

We believe that life should be celebrated and memories cherished and shared.  By taking an inventory of all the things we can be grateful for, we can start to appreciate them anew, or for the first time, and maybe learn to embrace our life and the people in it.

What is it that feeds your soul – is it your family and friends, your calling or hobby, or your faith?  Whatever it is, honor it, and invite more of it into your life.

The perfect recipe for happiness may not exist; similarly, the best way to grieve and heal cannot be prescribed, and it will be different for everyone.

However, what every one of us can try and do is to get more present to the gift of now, to the gift of breath, so that we can live with gratitude and grace celebrate each other in life, and honor and remember in death.

If you have lost a loved one, our funeral directors at DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory are here for you and your family to provide compassionate care before, during, and after the service.
