Dr. And Mrs.Gschwend,

Kate had humor and a darling smile from the time I met your family and spent many evenings and summer days with the girls. Even at a young age, She exuded fun and giggles and a spark that made spending time together something to look forward to. My heart breaks for your sadness and for her boys; may the strength of friendships surround you in these difficult days. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Warmest regards,
Shannon McMInn Oates-Rivera

Condolence from Gloria Schleicher on November 29th, 2011 8:35 pm

So sad to hear about Katie as we knew her as a little girl at Rohrerstown playing with Michael and Brenda. The girls (Katie and Jennie) would cross the creek with their dog Kahill into our backyard. I pray for peace and acceptance for the family — and that God will watch over her little boys and keep the memory of their loving Mother always in their hearts and minds. Gloria Schleicher

Katie (back then she was Katie) was my first crush. I can still picture chasing her around the Rohrerstown Elementary school yard at recess and blushingly making sure she got a flower on Valentines Day. She was always the smartest student in the class. She had a quiet confidence and dignity even at such an early age. She excelled at pretty much everything she did. I had long since lost touch with Katie after school, but always hoped the best for her. I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing. But heartened by the flood of wonderful childhood memories brought back to me when thinking of Katie. And to learn she had three sons to pass along her kindness and guidance. Katie will always hold a special place in my heart.

I extend my thoughts and prayers to
PG and Dottie, as I knew them best.
Katie was sweet when I gave LCDS the 1913 paperbound yearbook of my grandmother’s early years at Shippen. She knew in her sensitive way that this meant something
special to me to share with the school’s archives. My strengths extend to her husband and three darling sons.
Bless your family. Love Wilsie Hartman ’65
