Today I learned about Johns passing. In my memory, he is not
gone at all, he’s skiing and driving his old sports car into the vast universe and beyond. Many years ago when we were a bit younger(a bit!) we were on a Lancaster Ski Club bus , off to Vermont, and this great hearted man sat with us (Frank and ne) for a long time as the old bus creaked and slid through the night.. We didn’t know it then, but over the years we became fast friends, he was funny, easygoing , and distinguished himself as a fine and decent human being. . My Irish mother would say”sure he had a heart as big as a mountain” . John had CLASSwith a capital ‘C’.. I think we all liked his spunk, his ability to get along with people everywhere . John, my darling, you were the very best of men …….⛷Nireen Wint

John was a classmate at Elmira South Side High. More than that, he was a dear friend. We have had too little face-to-face time over the last 60 years, but kept in touch via e-mail. He and Carolyn have been in my prayers since I learned of his extraordinary health issues over the last two years. He sure as hell was a fighter

Condolence from Mary Anne Duffy on December 4th, 2016 3:26 pm

John Hale, a good man who never hesitated to share his knowledge & opinions freely. His generosity was enormous . John challenged my knowledge & experience as a doctor to listen, think, research & learn.
Least I forget, he was my connoisseur of single malt scotch & fine Irish whiskey.
John peace to your soul. Carolyn my love, respect always with you.
With deep respect, Dr Mary Anne Duffy

My heart is sad. Words can never express my appreciation for what John and Carolyn have done for me and my son many years ago, when my husband passed away. I have never met a man with a bigger heart than John. Carolyn, you and your family are in my thoughts. I know that everyone will celebrate John’s life, since he truly lived it so well. He was loved by many and he touched so many lives. He will live on in our hearts.
With my deepest sympathy,
Diane

Condolence from Hillary and Rick Shade on December 15th, 2016 10:09 am

Carolyn – Our prayers are with you, and your family, at this most difficult time – this is such sad news about John. Sorry to hear he suffered for awhile…..not an easy way to pass on. We didn’t realize he had so many accomplishments in his life – he left a great legacy. Also, you had 21 years of marriage, so you have lots of wonderful memories to help sustain you. It has been too long since we’ve seen you. (I have a conflict tomorrow, but there’s a chance I can get there for his Memorial Mass. If I can’t, I will call later to talk.) All our Love, Hillary & Rick
