John Munnelly

In Memorial

John Munnelly, 82, of ­Willow Valley, a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather, died peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2011.  Born April 2, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York, John was the oldest child of the late John and ­Margaret Munnelly.

John attended Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, St. Francis College and St. John’s Law School.  John was a practicing attorney for 40 years and was Vice-President and Associate General Counsel of the Equitable Life Assurance Company in New York City when he retired in 1989. John served his country as a First Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

John was proud of his Irish heritage and was an avid golfer and tennis player. He enjoyed reading, working with his computer and painting.

John was married to Theresa (Bracken) for 60 years.  John is also survived by his 4 children: John P. Munnelly and his wife Anne; Ken Munnelly and his wife Jean Marie; Terrianne Humes and her husband Jeff; and Joseph Munnelly and his wife Kristen. John had 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Mark E. Weiss on Monday, July 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, Pa. with a reception at Willow Valley to follow.   Friends will be greeted          from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in John’s name to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
