
Joan G. Pontius, age 88, of St. Anne’s Retirement Community, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at St. Anne’s. She was born on December 11, 1931 in Lewistown, PA. She was the daughter of the late Arlanda W. Glant and Ada (Sellers) Glant.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband Robert H. Pontius on December 7, 2012, as well as a brother, Arlanda Glant.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Carrol of Chicago, IL, Robert W. Pontius (wife Kathy) of Lancaster, PA, and William T. Pontius of Los Angeles, CA, 6 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mary Jayne Graybill of McAlisterville, PA.
Joan graduated from Lewistown High School Class of 1949 and Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. She was employed at Lewistown Hospital for many years and later at Shell Point Village in Fort Myers, FL. Retiring in 2001, she loved to knit, listen to music, and do arts and crafts.
She attended Mountville Church of the Brethren. There will be no services as arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family.

I worked with Joan at Shell Point while I was in the administration there. And she cared for my mother in the Pavilion. She was an outstanding nurse and an excellent team member. What a wonderful person!
