McCullough obit photo web

James R. “Jim” McCullough, 72, of Strasburg, was greeted by his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Homestead Village following a year long illness.  He was the Loving husband of Sharon (Hackman) McCullough with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania he was the son to the late Maris R. and Jean (Gaddis) McCullough.

Jim was a 1966 graduate of Penn Manor High School.  After high school he joined the United States Army and served our country for three years.  Following his service Jim went on to found JR McCullough Awning Company and McCullough Banner Company.

Jim was an active member of Boehm’s United Methodist Church in Willow Street where he served as president of the Boehm’s Chapel Society and was well known for his famous apple butter.  He was also a 32nd degree mason and member of the Charles M. Howell Masonic Lodge in Millersville, PA.

He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed working with his hands, especially gardening and wood working.

In addition to his loving wife, Sharon, and mother, Jean, he will be lovingly missed by two daughters Jamie Heckendorn (married to Michael) of Holly Springs, NC and Denise Claycomb (married to Nathan) of Strasburg, PA; four grandsons Dagen and Elijah Heckendorn and Ephram and Ethan Claycomb; and two brothers Larry McCullough of Marticville, PA and Michael McCullough (husband of Linda) of Strasburg, PA.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 2:00 PM, at Boehm’s United Methodist Church Cemetery, 13 W. Boehm’s Road, Willow Street, PA 17584.   A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date.

David and I are honored to have know Jim and his family! Jim was a soft spoken, always positive, godly man. We first became acquainted with Jim and his family when our son married Jamie, Jim’s daughter. We
spent many occasions with Jim and his extended family. It was always a wonderful time! We will miss Jim, but we know that he will definitely be an asset in Heaven with his Lord.
We pray for peace and comfort to Sharon and the rest of the family and know that time will ease the hurt and you will then focus on fond memories of Jim!

To my dear friend, Sharon –
My heart grieves for you in the homegoing of Jim–your loving husband, friend and father to your 2 girls. So glad you were able to celebrate 50 years of marriage . Saturday, January 24, 1970 was indeed a very special day and you were both blessed by God in the years following. May you feel God’s loving arms wrapped securely around you and your whole family during these days of mixed sorrow and joy–giving you peace and comfort.
    With our love and prayers,

The comfort of having a friend may have been taken away but not that of having had one. Having Jim as a close friend and neighbor was so very special and will not be forgotten. Wonderful memories will live on forever and in our hearts he will never be forgotten.

Our deepest sympathies to Sharon, the Girls and the Family.

We knew Jim aka “Uncle Mac” during his time in State College. What a sweet, gentle just absolutely special spirit he was. We haven’t seen him for years but remember he & Sharon so fondly. You made a difference in our lives MAC and I know we aren’t the only ones. We were truly blessed to know you BOTH. Love, Jon & Betty
