Condolence from Downey on April 22nd, 2018 7:53 am

Jim was one of the finest and most decent people I have ever met. I have such fond memories of accompanying he and Mary Rose on a university trip through Ireland, and the day we insisted the bus driver stop in mid-street so we could take a photo of Jim in front of a pub that bore the Durkin name. And I remember well Mary Rose climbing the slippery steps of Blarney Castle with a cast on her foot.

God bless you all and keep you in the palm of His hand.

Love, Dennis, Traci and the Downey family

Dear Mary Rose and family,
I am writing you from our connection from many years past. Our sons played on the same soccer team and we have many fond memories of those days with our soccer friends. I called our son, Danny (now goes by Stephen), to share your sad news this morning. He also asked me to send his condolences. We are so sorry this tragedy has happened to you and your children. We remember Jim as a gentle, kind man.

In loving memory of my Uncle Jim, a life so beautifully lived and a heart so deeply loved. In a bittersweet moment another angel has found his wings. Aunt Mary Rose, Caihlin and Jimmy, wishing you strength for today and hope for tomorrow. I wanted to share a line from a poem… “Our family chain is broken now and nothing seems the same but as God calls us one by one our chain will link again.” Rest in peace, Uncle Jim.

Condolence from Glenn Nissley on April 22nd, 2018 1:30 pm

Mary Rose, Caihlin, and Jim, Please accept our deepest condolences. May the Lord bless and comfort you during this very challenging time.
It was a joy to have known Jim and to have coached lacrosse with him for a number of seasons. Jim expected the best and gave his tireless best to the boys in the Hempfield program. He loved coaching and alway linked important life lessons to the demands of the game.
We shared a military connection that opened areas of unique conversation as we remembered similar experiences. He often referred to me by my rank and I had to follow by calling him Captain.
Through our friendship it was clear that you, his family, was the center of his life. He was so proud of each of you and bragged, appropriately, of Caihlin and Jimmy.
Please reach out to us if you require anything.
We are praying daily for each of you,
Glenn and Doreen Nissley

Condolence from Jill Grosh on April 23rd, 2018 10:04 am

To the Durkin Family,
You don’t know me, but I have been working at Lancaster Catholic for many years and assisting with the RYLA program, recruiting some of our students. I met Jim because he came in to interview our kids every year. I was devastated to hear of his passing because he was so full of life and stories and joy. He always regaled me with stories of the family and Notre Dame. He truly loved life! I’m so sorry for your loss, “Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord and may perpetual light shine upon him”. You are in my prayers.

Condolence from Karen Cornwell on April 23rd, 2018 10:28 am

Dearest Caihlin,

I never met your family but hearing you talk about them over the past year, I know you all have a close bond. Your father sounded like an amazing man and I know, from knowing you alone, that he was a wonderful Dad. Being his little girl must have been amazing. I am so sorry that you lost him so soon and so suddenly. My sincerest condolences to you and your family. Take good care of yourselves and hold on to each other. You are all in my prayers.

Condolence from Matt Kauffman on April 23rd, 2018 10:28 am

I am so deeply saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. Unfortunately I will not be able to join you this week in celebrating the life that he lived. I very much enjoyed getting to know him at the airport. It was always evident that he loved life and living it fully with those around him. His pride and love for his family were always especially noticeable to me. His zeal for the important things in life will be greatly missed. My prayers are for the comfort of God to surround you.

Condolence from Bill Sommers on April 23rd, 2018 11:26 am

My deepest condolences at the news of Jim’s passing. Appropriate words fail me. It was my great privilege to work closely with Jim and Steve to help organize a golf outing for Mike McCoy Ministries on September 7th., 2017, at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University Of Notre Dame. Jim and Steve’s support was invaluable. Their expertise and humor helped lighten the load considerably. We have lost two of the great ones. “LOVE THEE NOTRE DAME.”

Condolence from Allison Schlegelmilch on April 23rd, 2018 6:35 pm

Mary Rose, Cailhlin and Jim:

We are so deeply saddened by Jim’s passing. Our hearts and prayers for healing are with you during this difficult time.

To know Jim was to know his eternal love for you all. I happened to bump into him a few weeks ago at my office and we talked at length about how the children – now adults – are doing and he was absolutely beaming with pride. He cared about family, not only his own, but the families of his employees. He always asked about Ava with sincere interest.

Matt was lucky to have had him as a boss, as a mentor and as a friend. And by extension, I feel so grateful for everything that your husband and father did to build Choice Security Services and to contribute to the betterment of his employees’ lives. He had a lasting positive effect on our family.

With deepest sympathies,
Allison & Matt Schlegelmilch
