Henry B. Leaman

Posted By DeBord-Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory On September 15, 2015 @ 3:06 pm In Obituaries | 3 Comments

Henry Breckbill Leaman had his deep desire of going to be with Jesus fulfilled on September 15, 2015, ten days before his and Marian Garber Leaman’s 68th wedding anniversary. He was born December 7, 1924, to Harry and Anna Leaman, graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School, spent 1½ years in Civilian Public Service and lived in Lampeter Township as a successful dairy farmer for thirty three years, then served Mennonite Home as Maintenance Supervisor. He and Marian established Mennonite & Brethren Marriage and Engaged Encounter in South Central PA. They moved to Landis Homes Retirement Community in 2011.

He was a member of Willow Street Mennonite Church, serving there throughout the years as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, treasurer, trustee. While serving there and at Mennonite Home he was known to be able to “fix anything.”   For nearly 30 years, he and Marian volunteered to barbecue hamburgers and hot dogs at Mennonite Home so that every resident could enjoy an outdoor picnic. In tune with his “giving personality” Henry also served everyone at Mennonite Home homemade ice cream on his birthday.

He is survived by his wife, Marian, four daughters, Sara, Rachel (Loren Johns), Lois (John Jantzi), Carol (Dave Witmer), three sons, Jim (Sheryl Huebert), Ken (Judy Myers), Ron (Joyce Horst), 18 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Willow Street Mennonite Church, 399 E. Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, PA on Saturday, September 26 at 10:00A.M. Friends may greet the family on Friday evening, September 25, from 6-8:00 PM at the West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA and also on Saturday at the church following the Memorial Service. Burial is at convenience of the family. Contributions may be made to Mennonite & Brethren Marriage & Engaged Encounter, 134 East Mohler Church Road, Ephrata, PA 17522, or Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543.

Marian,

Having learned of the loss of the love of your life, these words come to mind.

When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight. –Kahlil Gibran

What we have once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us. –Helen Keller

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. –Jesus

May you find comfort in the numerous ways you walked with and stood by Henry in the joys and challenges of life.

Warm regards…

Condolence from Nancy and Clair Sauder on September 21st, 2015 4:18 pm

Dear Aunt Marian and family,
Even though I know Uncle Henry was looking forward to being with Jesus, those of us here will miss him. I will remember Uncle Henry’s chuckle, and the way his eyes closed and his head tilted back when he laughed. I always thought of Uncle Henry when I read stories about Mr. Fixit to our boys when they were little – surely he was Mr. Fixit, if I ever knew one! I also admired the way he pitched in to help around the house when Aunt Marian had her hands full with special projects.

Clair and I really regret that we will not be able to attend the memorial service on Saturday. We will be on a trip to India at that time. I wish I could be there to hear other folks tell what they remember and admire about Uncle Henry.

May God’s peace and comfort be with each of you, especially in the days to come, when it still doesn’t seem quite real that he’s no longer with us. And my your fond memories and reflections on the good times continue to bring a smile to your face and warmth to your hearts, even while you miss him so very much.

With love,
Nancy
