In Memorial

Helen M. Pyle, 86, passed away on January 24, 2015.  She was born in Hollidaysburg, PA to the late Grover C. Zimmerman and Maude Elizabeth Lingafelt Zimmerman.  She was the widow of Robert K. Pyle who passed away in January, 1991.

Helen graduated from Hollidaysburg High School and attended Gettysburg College.  She graduated in Parish Education from the Baltimore Lutheran Deaconess Motherhouse.  After graduating, she served as a parish worker at Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster where she met her future husband.

Faith played a central role in her life.  She was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Lancaster.  Over the years she had served in various capacities on the Vestry, in the church’s library and office, taught education classes, and volunteered on numerous church related committees.

Active in local politics, she worked for the Lancaster County Democratic Committee and the Lancaster County Voter Registration Office.

She is survived by her four children: Bob Pyle of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Beth Pyle; Barbara, wife of Dennis Barth, and Brian Pyle all of Lancaster.  In addition to her children, she has four grandchildren: Nicole, Andrew, Bryan and Liam; and a great-grandchild, Skylar who were the joys of her life.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Condolence from Susan Garofola on January 27th, 2015 9:16 am

Helen was my friend, constant supporter and sister in Christ. I had the honor of being her shut in visitor for the past 4 years and what an honor it was. I learned so much from her. When I saw her in December I realized how much she had failed. I am truly sorry for your loss but I also know her full sharp mind has now been restored, she is happy.
Blessings, Susan Garofola

Dear Family,
Helen was a unique lady, one I always enjoyed conversation with. I tried for many years to get her to sing in Trinity’s Choir since I knew she had a good voice. She always pleaded dizziness when climbing the stairs to the balcony. In her great generosity, she gave the lions share of the cost of the major renovation of Holy Trinity’s organ in 2001, for which I will ever be grateful. Helen was a blessing to all of us. May she rest in God’s peace.
