April 2015 Blog Post
We recently made one of the most difficult decisions that well-established businesses have to make, and that was to change the name of our 75 year old business. After extensive community and market research, as well as careful consideration within our family, we have decided to change the names of both our locations from Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc. and Richard A. Sheetz Funeral Home to:
DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
Although we completely respect the history and tradition of both funeral homes, we have two reasons for making this decision. The first reason is that, even though we took ownership of Richard A. Sheetz Funeral Home over nine years ago, many people did not realize that. We wanted to promote this funeral home under the “umbrella” of DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
The second reason is that there are more than one “Snyder” and “Sheetz” funeral homes in Lancaster County. The confusion has been an issue for everyone, including grieving families for many years.
We hope changing our name will alleviate that confusion.
We hope you will join us in our excitement as we move forward into our fourth generation of “Snyder” ownership. We are proud to say that Diane’s father, Kearney A. Snyder was very receptive to the name change, and agreed the time had come for us to make this transition.
Even though our name has changed, Mark C. and Diane Snyder DeBord are still an integral part of the business. Jeremy R. DeBord, has been recently named supervisor of the Orange Street location, and long-time employee Randy L. Stoltzfus continues as Supervisor of the Marietta Ave. location. Randall K. DeBord, our newest licensed funeral director has also been serving families well since coming into the family business.
We have some new and exciting things planned for the future of DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. Please stay tuned for future blogs to hear about what is coming!
