Harriet G. Musser

In Memorial

Harriet G. Musser, 87, of Lancaster, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Lancaster Regional Medical Center. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. Sr. and Gertrude E. Singer Gutacker. She was married to Everett O. Musser, Jr. who died in June of 1965.

She was a 1939 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, where she was a member of Jr. Buckwalters’ Marimba Band. She was a licensed beautician of Bryland School of Beauty Culture. She worked part time hours in the shop owned by her mother.

She was employed by Lampeter-Strasburg School District as a guidance secretary from 1963 to 1986, and attended continuing education courses by Penn State University and Shippensburg University. Prior to that, she was the chief clerk in the Pennsylvania State Selective Service Board from 1946 until 1949.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where she served as a member of the Church Council, Lutheran Church Women, and several committees. She also was a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and volunteered at Luther Acres. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

She was a long time member of Lancaster Primetime Chapter, American Business Women Assoc., where she chaired many committees, and a life member of PA State School Retirees Assoc., Lancaster Chapter.

Surviving are: a son and daughter, David R. Musser, and Janet L. Musser with whom she resided. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry C. Gutacker, Jr.

Funeral services will be held from the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 750 Greenfield Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601 on Wednesday at 11 AM with interment following in Riverview Burial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 10 to 11 AM at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
