Emmet "Jim" C. Eckman II

Emmet “Jim” C. Eckman II, 79, a Lititz resident and a life-long resident of Lancaster County, entered into rest on December 27, 2014.

Emmet was the son of Emmerson F. and Maud M. (Myers) Eckman.   He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Edna M. Eckman and sister Betty Mandros.   He has 2 children, Emmet C. Eckman, III husband of Mindy Eckman (MD) and daughter Linda Eckman Wissler, wife of Leo F. Wissler, Jr. (Mt. Joy) He also has several step-children; Kathleen Chase, wife of Gordon Chase (Lititz), Eloise Slagle, wife of Robert Slagle (AZ), Dawn Diehm, wife of Timothy Diehm (Lititz), Dennis Rose, husband of Kimberly Rose (CA) and Paula Rezende, wife of Kevin Rezende (CA).  Emmet has 2 nephews, Chris Mandros and Steven Shelly. Together, he and Edna have 21 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Emmet was a proud member of the U.S.M.C, starting as a reserve member while still in high school and finally retiring in 1961. After a short sabbatical, he re-enlisted in the Army National Guard and retired after 34 years in 1995 with the rank of Sergeant.

He enjoyed various careers, starting as an Inhalation Respiratory Therapist and later retiring as a warehouse specialist with K & W Tires.

Emmet enjoyed going to musicals at the Dutch Apple, singing with the Red Rose Chorus, bowling, reading, dancing and golf in his later years.  He was an avid Penn State football fan and a die-hard Eagles fan.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602, on Friday, January 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM.  A  Visitation will be held Friday at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery will full military honors.
