Dorothy Schimp DuFrain passed quietly on November 22, 2012, at the age of 103, at Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Born in Lancaster on October 25, 1909, Dorothy lived there until her retirement years which she spent in Florida. She worked many years at Watt & Shand department store as buyer for Hazel Bishop and Dorothy Gray cosmetic lines. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. Her parents, Sarah and Norman Adams, were lifelong Lancaster County residents. Dorothy was preceeded in death by her first husband, Park E. Schimp, and a younger sister, Norma Vogel, of East Petersburg.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Gloria Hart, of Mechanicsburg, PA whose husband, John Hart, passed in 2002, and a son, Park Schimp, Jr. and wife Nancy, of Clayton, GA. Another daughter, Loretta Heistand , wife of Robert Heistand, passed on in her home in Denver, CO in 2009. Additional family members include eleven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren. Her marriage to Park Schimp took place at Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, PA in 1928. Park owned and operated Ralph Stine & Co. accounting firm in Lancaster until his death in 1966. Her second marriage to Philip DuFrain took place in Christmas, FL in 1982, and they made their home in Florida for 18 years. DuFrain succumbed in 2000 at which time Dorothy returned to PA to live out her days at Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11:30 A.M. at the Richard A. Sheetz Funeral Home, 2024 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Roseann Goldberg officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
