Donald G. Gehr, 81, of Leola, died peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2017 with his loving wife, Shirley by his side.
Don was born July 30, 1935 in Highville, PA to the late Elizabeth Gehr Ruoss and Roy S. Gehr.
Don worked in the garment industry for over 50 years mainly in sales, fashion and lingerie design. Working with the late actress Jane Russell was one of the highlights of his career.
Don was a U.S. Army Veteran. He kept a beautiful yard and gardens, designed and sewed quilts, made clothing for all of us and hosted fabulous events and parties. Don traveled extensively for work and pleasure, loved the mountains and beach and hanging out with Ben at the greenhouse and his Amish friends.
Let’s just say Don loved to entertain people and make them laugh. Leola United Methodist Church enjoyed the fruits of his labor for many years. Don decorated the church for Christmas, started the Café and volunteered his time.
Most of all Don loved his wife, family and friends. His marriage to Shirley Immel Gehr was a love story for over 62 years.
