David J. Barney

In Memorial

David J. Barney, 75, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mount Joy. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Jean E. Space Barney. He was married for 48 years to M. Joan Braught Barney.

David was a 1952 graduate of Upper Darby High School. He was also a 1957 graduate of Penn State University with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering, and served in the U. S. Navy. He worked for Armstrong World Industries from 1956 until retiring in 1995. He held several positions in the company including, Industrial Engineer, Supervisor, General Foreman, and finally, Manager of Plant Services. After retiring, he worked for Green Estates Lawncare Services.

An active member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, he served as a past Elder, Deacon, and Trustee. A sports enthusiast, David was an avid runner, and enjoyed playing tennis and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also enjoyed reading, and was a member of the Military Officers Association of America.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a daughter, Patricia wife of Keith Faller of Lancaster; 2 sons, Stephen husband of JoAnn Barney of Rockville, MD, Robert husband of Lee Barney of Coatesville; 5 grandchildren, Laura, Kelly and Melissa Faller, Angela and David Barney; 2 sisters, Marilyn wife of Armand Angulo of Chambersburg, Susan wife of James Long of Jenkintown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Kofod.

A memorial service will be held from the Highland Presbyterian Church 1801 Oregon Pike Lancaster, PA 17601 on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 11 AM. The family will visit with friends from 10 to 11 AM at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County P.O. Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to the Highland Fund c/o Highland Presbyterian Church.
