In Memorial

Charles “Chuck” W. McCreary of Lancaster died on Sunday, May 10th at Hospice of Lancaster County, Mt. Joy, after a brief illness. He was the loving son of his mother, Shirley T. McCreary of Lancaster, and his father, the late Willard “Bill” E. McCreary who died in 1999. His brother, Philip L. McCreary of Harrisburg also preceded him in death in 1998.

Chuck was born in Red Wing, Minnesota on April 20, 1950, graduated from Manheim Township High School and Elizabethtown College with a degree in Religion and Philosophy. Besides his mother, Shirley, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Donna McCreary, two aunts, two uncles and several cousins and great nephews and nieces.

A member of First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, he formerly served on the Administrative Board, Staff Parish Commission, Church and Society Committee and was a former member of the Chancel Choir.

For four years he was a volunteer with the Christian Service Corps, Washington, D.C. and served two of those years as a youth director in Dakar, Senegal, West Africa at the Home of Hope Orphanage. First United Methodist Church was his sole sponsor.

During Chuck’s college years he spent six weeks on an archeological “dig” in Israel and walked in the steps that Jesus walked in that region. He was employed his last 19 years at the Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center and loved nature, music, art and sports.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 14th at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, corner of Duke and Walnut Sts., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Dr. Kent E. Kroehler officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 29 E. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA 17602.
