Catherine (Kitty) Haldy passed away on June 25, 2019 at Hospice of Mount Joy following a brief illness.

Born on March 3, 1923 in Lancaster, Pa, she was the daughter of John H. and Barbara (Bleacher) Wein.

After graduating from McCaskey High School in 1940, she was employed for several years by the Draft Board during World War II.

She was the loving wife of Richard Eckman who was killed during World War II and James M. Haldy who passed away in 2001 after 55 years of marriage.

Kitty was, for many years, an active member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, serving several times on the Board of Deacons

She was also a long time member of P.E.O. Philanthropic Organization.

She was an avid sports fan all her life, with a particular fondness for Penn State, the Dallas Cowboys and most especially her beloved N.Y. Yankees.  She enjoyed flowers, gardening, animals, reading and crossword puzzles.  She loved celebrating holidays with her family and greatly anticipated the annual family vacation in Avalon N.J.

Kitty is survived by her three children, James M., Jr. (Janet) of Elverson, Karen (Jim) Mellinger of Lancaster and Peter W. (Carol) of Bryn Mawr.  She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother John Wein.

Words cannot adequately express the wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother Kitty Haldy was.  We admired her, loved her immensely and had such gratitude for her presence in our lives.  We will forever miss her.

Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service at DeBord Snyder Funeral Home at 141 E. Orange St Lancaster, Pa on Monday July 1 at 2 P.M. Family will greet people following  the service.  Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125 Lancaster, Pa 17604.
