Bertha E. Gerlitzki, 89, of Lancaster passed away peacefully in Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Conestoga View Nursing Home. She was born on May 22, 1929 to the late George and Bertha Patton Bryson. She was the wife of the late Karl A. Gerlitzki, who died in 2001. They were married for over 53 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Gloria (Reed) Rodman of Lancaster and Karen (Charles) Burkhart, also of Lancaster. She had three grandchildren, Kristin Rodman (Michael) Schwarz of Philadelphia, Jennifer Rodman (Nathan) Campbell of Manheim and Mark Burkhart (Genea) of Lebanon.
Very important to “Nanny” were her six great-grandchildren – Ryan and Audrey Schwarz, Lucas and Nora Campbell and Patricia and Mark Burkhart, Jr.
Bertha and her husband operated K & B Confectionary at 3rd and Ruby Streets in Lancaster for over 10 years. With an old-fashioned soda fountain, it was a popular neighborhood hangout. She enjoyed playing bingo and slot machines and was a participant in the singles group and bocce league at Village Grande at Millers Run in Lancaster. “Nanny” especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a kind and generous person, always thinking of others first.
Bertha was the last of her immediate family. She was predeceased by siblings George Bryson, Florence Yoder, Grace Heiler, Thelma Eager, Charles Bryson, Ruth Bryson and Joseph Bryson.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Thank you to the staff on the 3rd floor at Conestoga View for their kindness, care and support during the final years of her life.
