Adeline C. Holliday, 90, of Willow Valley, Lancaster, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 24, 2011. Born June 19, 1921, at Old Forge, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Martha Williams Curnow. She was predeceased by her husband, Alan S. Holliday, on January 8, 2010. They had celebrated 64 years of marriage at the time of his passing.
Adeline graduated from Taylor High School, Taylor, in 1939 and had been employed before her marriage as a secretary by the International Red Cross, Scranton; the physical education department at East Stroudsburg University; and the U.S. Naval Depot at Mechanicsburg. She enjoyed traveling, reading, crossword puzzles, and playing golf. A loving wife and mother, she dedicated herself to her family. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered for her soft-spoken, quiet elegance.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lancaster, for more than 50 years and had been a member of the Women’s Society of Cornwall Manor.
She is survived by a son, William S. Holliday and wife Nan of Lancaster; daughter, Barbara L. Cioffi and husband Mick of Williamsport; grandsons, Christopher, Paul, and Glenn (Victoria) Holliday, all of Lancaster; Mike Cioffi (Sarah) of Woodbridge, VA; granddaughter, Meredith Wenz (Keith); a great-granddaughter, Avery Wenz, and an unborn great-granddaughter, all of Marietta. She is also survived by a brother, William Curnow, of Delaware Water Gap, and five nieces. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Hill, and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, corner of Duke and Walnut Streets, Lancaster, on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11 AM with the Rev. David M. Myers officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. A private inurnment for the family will follow at Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster.
