John C. "Sonny" Hohenadel, Sr.

In Memorial

John C. “Sonny” Hohenadel, Sr., 80, of New Providence, died Monday, March 9, 2009 at Hospice of Lancaster County in Mount Joy.

He was married 58 years to Dolores Benedict Hohenadel. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Frank F. and Margaret A. Rhoads Hohenadel.

Sonny retired from Aggregates in Leola and had started his working career at the Posey Iron Works. He was a 1948 graduate of McCaskey High School and had played on their championship football team. Throughout his life, he enjoyed playing on several county baseball leagues, following Notre Dame and the Yankees and fishing and hunting.

Mr. Hohenadel was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight of the Santa Maria Assembly of the Knights of Columbus, a Past Grand Knight of Columbia Council 2294, and a member of the Artisans Lodge #27. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons, John C., Jr., husband of Cheryl Hohenadel of New Providence, Bradford L. husband of Dawn Hohenadel of Strasburg, and William W. Hohenadel of Lancaster; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty wife of Raymond VanCleve of New Providence. He was preceded in death by brothers, Tommy Giberson and Francis “Big” Hohenadel.

A Christian Prayer Service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Daniel C. Mitzel officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sonny’s memory may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602.
